Watcher of wood and dropper of the unworthy, Herakon’s spirit soars the skyline watching all that approach. The masks are designed to be fairly easy to build so you don't need to be some sort of arts and crafts wizard. The finished masks are robust so should survive the wildest of parties. They are ideal for wearing to festivals, parties and even the weekly shop!

The templates and instructions are supplied as a 20 page PDF that is available to download as soon as you complete your purchase, so there is no more waiting for the postman. Simply download your PDF and print the templates on normal printer or copier paper. I’ve set out the templates so that they are FULLY COMPATIBLE WITH BOTH A4 AND US LETTER PAPER. I also included instructions for a simple head band to hold the mask securely in place. With all of our templates you have the option to build the mask with or without gluing tabs. Without tabs is quicker but with building tabs is neater. The tabbed version of this mask takes approximately 3-6 hours to build.

We believe in minimising our environmental impact so I designed the masks to be made from either reclaimed or locally sourced card. Old packaging boxes work really well, we use a lot of empty cereal boxes but you can also use 300gsm card purchased from a local craft store. Having printed the templates on paper, stick them to card, cut them out, match the numbers and join the parts together.

We supply our templates plain so that you can make your creation unique by decorating and colouring your mask in any way that you like. Try coloured card, paints and marker pens or gluing on patterned paper or fabric. What makes our masks unique? You may have noticed that our masks have a very low number of facets or surfaces, in technical terms this is a low poly count. It is this low poly count and some ingenious engineering that make our masks quick, easy and most importantly really good fun to build. Making things should be fun so with each mask I devote a lot of time to removing the fiddly, complicated, annoying and frustrating parts so that when you come to build your mask the process is relaxing and kind of therapeutic.

I modified the mask to look more like a raven skull, but the base pattern was great and easy to work with! The built-in support structure was also very helpful. I consider this to be a work in progress but I'm so very happy with how it came out.

How To Draw A Bird Skull

Such an amazing piece! The mask came out beautifully and wasn't even difficult to put together. I did have to do a bit of modification to the inner support since my head is a bit on the small side. But it was simply just adding a folded piece so it made contact with my forehead. Fit like a glove after that, no straps or strings needed with this mask!

This was SO fun to assemble and turned out amazing - even better than expected. Yes, it took some careful concentration, but made for a fantastic easy craft project. We also made the goat skeleton, and this one was much quicker and easier (although both were fun to make). Will definitely be purchasing and building more Wintercroft masks in the future!

I’m based in the UK and I think that the cost, difficulty and not to mention the environmental impact of shipping a large, fragile object to the US, for example, would be prohibitive.

The original idea was to produce a low impact alternative to shop bought masks. The instructions and templates are designed to be easy to follow, so that the mask can be assembled by anyone, using local materials and removing the need for shipping. Besides it’s very satisfying turning what is waste 2D material into a 3D mask.

I'm in the US where letter-sized paper is easier to come by than A4. Do any of your plans run right up to the edge, or will I be okay printing on letter? Letter is a bit wider and a bit shorter than A4.

The templates are FULLY COMPATIBLE WITH BOTH A4 AND US LETTER PAPER. The templates are 1:1 scale and are intended to be printed at ACTUAL SIZE on either A4 paper (210mm X 297mm) or US Letter paper (8½" X 11"). In your printer setting please select the type of paper that you are printing on but DO NOT SCALE THE TEMPLATES TO FIT THE PAPER.

I am trying to print out the template and it is almost an inch to half an inch difference in size. I cannot get the 150mm line to be the size I need it to be. Is there a way to adjust this to fit the way It needs to?

Usually when you press print you get a dialog box with either print settings or print options. Just check that you are printing at full size and not scaling to fit the paper.

The program won't let me print them without signing up with a program that changes PDFs into other things. I’ve downloaded the masks how do I print them?

The easiest way to open and print the templates is by using Adobe Reader. It is a free PDF Reader from Adobe.

I recommend using cardboard that is about the thickness of a cereal box - but basically anything that will hold a decent crease, as long as you can score and fold it Is the important factor.
